Hot Tub Removal: What to Expect Before, During and After
Removing a hot tub comes down to three things. Before we arrive, a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber need to disconnect power and water, because we don't do utility disconnects. On removal day, we cut the tub into sections, carry them out and haul them away, then sweep the pad or deck. And on price, most hot tub removals run $400–$1,000, depending on size and access.
Before we come: power and water
This is the one step we can't do for you. A hot tub is wired into your electrical system and plumbed to your water, and a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber need to disconnect both before our visit.
There's good reason for that. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation says anyone who performs electrical work in Texas must be licensed, and its definition of electrical work covers equipment outside a home as well as inside it. Back in 2003, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission urged homeowners to have an electrician who is qualified in pool and spa work handle hot tub electrical, in line with local codes and the National Electrical Code.
Once they're done, the tub should be fully disconnected, with nothing live and no water line attached. Then it's our turn.
Draining the tub
If there's still water in it, it has to come out before removal. Denton County's clean-water guidance says to drain a pool only when a test kit no longer detects chlorine, and to drain a pool or spa into the sanitary sewer system whenever possible.
Removal day
Here's how the job usually goes:
- You send photos first. Text a picture of the tub and the path out: gate width, steps, the deck, anything tight.
- We cut it into sections. The shell and frame get cut into pieces that fit through gates and side yards, so nobody drags a whole tub across your lawn. We protect the deck and landscaping as we go.
- We carry every piece out and load it.
- We sweep the pad or deck before we leave.
If your tub sits on a concrete pad, the pad stays, since we don't haul cement or concrete. If you want the old deck around it gone too, our light demolition service takes down decks and porches, as long as they're freestanding and not attached to the house.
Some tubs put up more of a fight than others:
Damon had great communication, was friendly, and punctual. We had a beast of a hot tub to haul off. His team worked hard and got the job done. Would definitely recommend to anyone needing something hauled off.
What it costs
Hot tub removal: typical range
- Most hot tub removals
- $400–$1,000
Most hot tub removals run $400–$1,000. Where yours lands depends on the tub's size and how easy it is to get out. A bigger tub or a tighter path means more cutting and more carrying. Text a photo and we'll send a rough number, and the firm price is confirmed on site before any work starts. You pay after the job is done to your satisfaction.
Where it goes
Metal parts and components are recycled where possible. The shell, cabinet and foam go to disposal. You can read more about how we handle the job on our hot tub removal page, or send us the details through the quote request form.
